I wrote this for my sweet Grandma on Mother's Day. She continues to be one of my favorite people! The words below are my attempt to express my love and admiration for her. Go ahead; be jealous. You wish she was your Grandma too!
GRANDMA
{The Way You Are
Through My Eyes}
PATIENCE. The way
you go about your business. Never in a hurry or a rush.
PRESENT. The way
you live in the moment. Never distracted or preoccupied by other things.
FAMILY HISTORY. The
way you remember everyone and their connection to everyone else. You are the best family history resource of Lake
Mary Township.
CALM. The way
your gentle spirit and soothing voice provide a calming and peaceful
atmosphere.
KIND. The way you
treat others. Always a friendly greeting and genuine concern for others.
RESPECT. The way
you talk to others and about others when they are not around. Never a bad word
to say.
CREATIVITY. The
way you design and create meaningful gifts like teddy bears with music boxes,
personalized bath towels, beautiful quilts and blankets, and even a fancy purse
for me to carry on my wedding day.
PROTECTIVE. The way
you ensure everyone stays safe. Even if it means crushing a cough drop with a
hammer so the little ones don’t choke.
CONVERSATION. The
way you never run out of things to talk about. You ask questions of others
which shows you care.
MEMORY. The way
you remember people, names, and special dates. Just ask Grandma!
SUPPORTIVE. The
way you show your support by attending sporting events, dance recitals, and
activities.
RELIABLE. The way
you attend every birthday party and special celebration year after year without
fail. Not to mention the fact that you always bring your famous taco dip!
FLEXIBLE. The way
you rearrange your schedule or plans to accommodate the needs of others.
TALENTED. The way
you cook, bake, and sew and then share those talents with your loved ones.
THOUGHTFUL. The
way you make your delicious kolaches for the family and then set aside the
extras because you know everyone’s favorites.
FUN. The way you enjoy
playing games and never pass an opportunity to have fun.
HANDY. The way
you can fix anything and everything.
CARING. The way
you wipe away tears and give the hugs that make everything better.
ACCOMODATING. The
way you meet the needs of others without making anyone feel guilty.
BEAUTFIUL. The
way your inner and outer beauty collide. You are oh so beautiful and have the
most loving eyes.
CONNECTED. The
way you take the time to stay current on everyone’s lives through phone calls
and Facebook.
AFFECTIONATE. The
way you never let anyone leave your sight without letting them know they are
loved with words, hugs, and a wave goodbye.
WISE. The way you
share life lessons to encourage others. Your perspective is always refreshing!
This is just a small list of the attributes I admire about
you. I only wish I was more like you. You are one of my most favorite people on
earth and I am so blessed to call you Grandma. Thank you for enriching my life
and providing so many fond memories for me. You made my childhood sweet but
adulthood even sweeter. I appreciate you more and more with each year that
passes. My kids are so fortunate to have a special relationship with you and
spend precious time with their Great Grandma. Thank you for investing in our
lives.
Happy 88th Birthday and Mother’s Day to a very
special Grandma. I’m so thankful that God brought healing upon you these past
couple of weeks. I love you all the way to Jesus and back.
