I am amazed by how much my 3-year old loves hunting. Yes, he has a toy rifle (2 of them). If he didn't, every stick or broom he found would be turned into one so I caved. This year, he joined Daddy and Uncle Ryan on his very first hunt-duck hunting opener. They had a blast. As they were crouched down in the slew with their eyes set on a huge flock of ducks, seconds before opener began, Gavin announced that he had to go potty. So as any good Dad would do, Nate helped him get his pants down and fend for himself while he took his best shot at the flock above. Of course, Gavin had to bring his "guns" with and even wore the batteries out. Lots of shells were shot, smiles had, and many memories made as Daddy and Gavin will never forget their first hunt together. I really need to get the pictures from Grandma
Hjelle...
Gavin also joined Nate on several "Deer Cruises" this Fall. After the fun duck hunting adventure, Gavin anxiously asked "Should we bring our guns with Daddy?" nearly every time before they left. Deer hunting season wasn't so successful for Daddy this year, and he's not the only one that was bummed about it. Just today, in a very sincere little voice, Gavin said, "Daddy, I'm sorry that you didn't shoot a deer this year." Our nightly routine now includes an exciting story about a hunting adventure before bedtime.
Gavin was able to celebrate Papa's big buck and it just so happens to be my favorite picture of the hunting season...
