Doe A Deer

I was a little nervous about Nate leaving for 3 nights to head to deer camp this year. A broken leg does not allow you to do very much, at all. When I told Gav that we would be alone all weekend, he asked "Will your leg still be broken?" Even a little boy understands that a damper is put on the fun with mom's limited mobility. But, we survived and did manage to get out of the house a few times.

Gav was really excited for Dad to shoot a deer this year. When we got a call from him to let us know that he shot a doe, he was ecstatic and told me how hungry he was for deer meat. Unfortunately, he was under the impression that we would get to eat the meat when we drove out to see it...

The doe in the picture below wasn't the only one Nate managed to get this year. In fact, he got two does with one shot. Yes, one with his truck on his way to work the following week. There was roughly $4,000 in damage and a tow was necessary because it took out part of the radiator. The ironic thing about it was this was Nate's second to last day making his 43 mile (one way) commute to work. This made it all the more frustrating for him and after I found out he was okay, all I could do was laugh. Afterall, it's been such an uneventful (sarcasm) Fall for us.
